The Spanish dialogue of the golden age and the Italian models: translations, rewritings, forms and evolution of the genre

(Il dialogo spagnolo del Siglo de Oro e i modelli italiani: traduzioni, riscritture, forme ed evoluzione del genere)

Despite the accepted topos by which Spanish dialogue is much, if not completely, indebted to the Italian models’ influence, no systematic studies exist on which texts, beyond the most well-known, fostered the relation of interdependence between the “dos orillas”, along with the ways in which this passage concretely took place along the axis of the Spanish-Italian relations (translations, rewritings, adaptations), which were the places (courts, circles), and who were the people who, in the net of diplomatic (academic and personal) relations, were influenced by this flow.

The research group aims to produce a series of critical editions of exemplary case studies, concentrated between the second half of the 16th and the first half of the 17th century, methodologically resorting to the latest innovations in digital philology.

Besides increasing the number of the rigorous and reliable critical editions of dialogues available today, the research group aims to elaborate monographs and interpretative essays derived from the participation in seminars, conferences and meetings with external experts in the field with whom the members of the group will discuss the structural constructions, formal andthematic, of dialogue, observed in the sociocultural contexts of production and circulation of the genre.
